Success?

My sister texted me and let me know that Smart TV had hit a million views.

To put things in perspective, Multi-WAN was my first successful video, garnering over 2000(!) views.

I’ll bet you can’t tell I’m old…

I don’t think there are any broader conclusions to draw. I haven’t magically found some special reserve of insight or talent that’s brought my content to a higher level. It is awesome that the additional subscribers seem to have brought with them a higher performance floor.

Also, in retrospect, it may have been a little early to bust out the raffle, considering how little revenue my “normal” videos are bringing in. Then again, it’s nice to bring some holiday cheer. I’ll just need to be more careful in the future.

Today, I’m sitting at 61k subscribers - but it was just a couple months ago that I was setting a goal of hitting 30k by the end of 2026. Clearly, I missed something - and pessimism doesn’t actually help me model the situation properly. So, I’m setting the goal of hitting 100k by the end of May. That doesn’t feel attainable, but I’m going to go for it anyway.

However, thinking about what that would mean for me, and for my family, is that about a quarter of my income would come from YouTube. That’s not enough to make it a full-time thing, but it is enough to stop regarding it as a hobby. I don’t allow myself to think about it getting bigger than that - but wouldn’t that be amazing?

Thanks for the support!
