Excruciating
I completed and posted my first Dad Explains EVERYTHING video, Dad Explains Indoor Air Quality: What’s Poisoning Your Air (and What Fixes It!). I have mixed feelings about the video, in part because it diverges from a series that’s given me some success, and partially because I know that it’s boring subject matter.
It’s actually kind of the point.
I grew up with a dad that seemed to know everything. As an engineer with a couple graduate degrees, he knows quite a lot - but he pretty much knew everything that I was going to be curious about (until about 16 years old, or so). It wasn’t until I got out into the world that I realized that not everyone else had that experience. The complimentary pieces of living in that house impacted me as well. For example, my parents had subscriptions to Popular Science, National Geographic, and Consumer Reports. Reading those from cover to cover, informed the way I think about innovation and comparative analysis.
Indoor air quality is boring, but I also am willing to bet that most people don’t think or know much about it.
I think it’s my longest video, to date. I’m not exactly getting rewarded for my efforts, as it’s also one of my lower AVP videos. With over 300 views, the video is certainly not languishing like one of the SVP-shackled ones. Plus, the production was brutal. 142 art and audio assets in the project, versus 74 for Duolingo. Oof. And Air Quality isn’t even that nicely produced!
Well, you should check out the video and watch the whole thing. Let me know what you think.
