What just happened?
7200 views in the first 24 hours? What?
I posted Dad Ruins VPNs and watched a weird impressions plot unfold over the course of a couple hours. I’m used to some of my regulars getting in early, and that was reflected in the high CTR and AVP. Then? Impressions spike with a test, and CTR dropped to about 1%.
Shit.
I figured that meant the worst, as YT tested the video with an audience and it bombed. Then YT did it again. And it bombed again.
Oh well - I guess I overestimated the appetite for a video about VPNs. Not shocking.
Despite this, about 6 hours after posting, I was at about 250 views. At this point, that’s kind of my floor. Mid-pack performance would be 700-1000 views in the first couple weeks. My highest performers are a couple videos in the 4000-5000 view range.
So, 24 hours after posting VPN, where is it?

That’s not even the full story, as my subscribers are actually up by 259 - I guess watchers that subscribed from the channel page, rather than the video?
Air quality got a 100 view and 15 watch hour bump. Considering I make some videos that get less than 25 total watch hours, that feels significant.
The implications of the VPN video are pretty large. As I’ve been typing this, the watch hours have increased by 5! The impressions curve hasn’t started to level off yet, but I know it can happen at any moment. Still, I think it’s realistic to think that I may get another 100 watch hours (or more out of this). If that’s the case, this could take me from ~50% of my monetization watch hours to about 75%. Even if I don’t have any video repeat this performance pattern, I think this bump will allow my to monetize before my first hours start rolling off.
Hot damn.
Mom, the creative is all about manifesting things. If that were indeed something that worked, I think I would manifest the video making it to 10k views and 1000 watch hours. Oh, and 1600 subs. You know, why not?
