Is SVP still a thing after a breakout?

VPN is in its death throes, but I’ve been in that position before. It took 4 zombie weeks of Bossware before I was out of SVP. I managed to waste a few good videos in that time, because of it.

So, is that the case now? Air quality has managed to get a massive transitive bump from VPN, but SVP wouldn’t affect that. As a test, I released Dad Explains Password Managers.

The problem is that the results are hard to read. By views, it’s the 8th most successful video I’ve had - and that’s after 2 days. By hours, it’s about to be my 3rd most successful video. Then again, non-subscribers only account for 67% of the watch time. One of two things is happening - I’m in SVP, but I have a much larger subscriber base, so it’s not as obvious, or I’m automatically testing to larger audiences at the same time I’m presenting to subscribers.

Or maybe it’s something else.

In other news, I’m responding to the trolls who complain about the audio quality. The complaints roughly fall into a few catergories:

  1. background noise

  2. the sound of my voice, in general

  3. vocal fry

  4. that I talk too slowly

To address #1, I’ve taken some of my monetization proceeds and purchased a Shure MV7+. There are nicer mics, but I’m not spending my money on one, mostly because I can’t do anything about #2.

I don’t have a DJ voice. In fact, I had surgery years ago that could have left me unable to speak, so I’m happy to have what I have.

As for vocal fry, I’m not sure when people are picking that up, but I’m guessing it’s in some of the speaking sections when I’m running out of breath. I’m not trying to sound like a 2010’s Kardashian… it’s just happening by accident.

Regarding the pace, I actually talk pretty fast in the videos. Just to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind, I checked out some other creators, and I’m talking about 50% faster than most of them. Maybe it hits different, since my channel is faceless?

In any case, of those 4 issues, I’m only kind of addressing one of them. The mic should help some, but I still have 5 dogs. I don’t have a dedicated studio. I have a server rack that sounds like a full formation of Dyson hair dryers nearby, and I have a Winix air cleaner nearby (air quality, ftw).
