I am not a privacy content creator. I do create some privacy content, though.

Immediately after that, I started getting the comments.

Ones like: “Why would I do anything to improve my privacy if I have a cell phone”

I mean, it’s absurd reasoning, akin to “why do anything, if I won’t do everything”. Oh, I don’t know… why do you wear a seatbelt, or look both ways before you cross the street?

But I’ve gotten pelted with FUD about phones for a while now. And, yes, they can collect and exfiltrate tons of information that you don’t want disseminated.

But they don’t have to.

So, I put togetherYour phone is not listening to you.  The truth is much worse. 5 Months. I mean, I didn’t work on it for 5 months straight, but I have worked on it more than any other video. The end result? 56 minutes. Nearly twice as long as my previous longest (Flock).

And really, spite is the reason I didn’t break it into 5 more digestible videos. And by spite, I mean that I didn’t want someone to watch Part 1 and then go off in the comments about how opsec doesn’t really protect you. By putting all of the parts together, I’m putting all of the information out there. Yes, it’s still a summary (even at 56 minutes), but it’s comprehensive enough that people can’t pretend like I didn’t cover more than they were previously aware of.

That hasn’t stopped early commenters talking about things that they know nothing about. Like multiple people (already) claiming that they’ve proven that their phone is listening to them. I’ve asked them for their experimental methodologies, and where they published their revolutionary findings. Crickets🦗

Consider me shocked. Shocked, I say.

As far as the video goes, I’m proud of my work. I mean, I did spot at least 10 things I wanted to change, after I posted it. But really, that’s nothing new. Unfortunately, the video is not performing as I’d hoped. In the end, I suspect this will be a pretty big loser, in terms of expense vs. revenue. It’s a shame, really - but I guess I’ll see where it stands in a week. Right now, I’m only a day in.
